Which bidder registration setting should I use?

Choosing the right bidder registration for your auction

Indy.auction provides flexible registration options to ensure the platform meets the specific needs of your auction. Choosing the right setting helps you balance user accessibility with the necessary level of security for your items.

Registration options

You can choose from different registration options depending on the value of your lots and the type of engagement you want to encourage.

  • Email verification: this is the standard setting for most auctions. Bidders must verify their email address before they can place a bid. It is effective for lower-value items or auctions where high engagement and marketing reach are the priority.
  • Card authorisation: you can require bidders to register a valid payment card. This adds a layer of commitment and ensures that payment details are captured before any bidding activity begins.
  • Manual approval: for high-value sales, you can choose to manually review and approve every bidder. This gives you full control over who participates in the auction.

Choosing the right setting for your auction

The best registration setting depends on your primary goals for the event.

Email verification is best if:

  • You want to encourage the highest possible number of registrations.

  • The auction is part of a wider marketing campaign to capture leads.

  • The lots have a lower price point where the risk of non-payment is minimal.

Card authorisation or manual approval is best if:

  • The auction features high-value assets or luxury goods.

  • You want to ensure all participants have a serious intent to purchase.

  • You need to reduce the administrative task of following up on payments after the auction ends.

Additional benefits of manual approval:

  • For private events: by manually approving each bidder, you can compile a pre-vetted list of attendees for your event.
  • To add another layer of bidder security: manual approval works as an 'off-platform' verification method. It allows you to vet potential bidders by methods such as KYC or AML checks, or asking people for proof of funds before bidding.

Selecting your registration method

Once you've decided which option is best for your auction, you can select a registration type by navigating down the right hand side of the auction creator page.

Advanced verification and compliance

For auctions that require more rigorous security measures, Indy.auction can support additional verification layers. This includes:

  • Proof of funds.

  • Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks.

  • Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation.

If your auction requires these advanced compliance checks, please get in touch with the support team at support@indy.auction to discuss the best way to implement them for your sale.
